A German Nuremberg ship Penny Jetton, anonymous issues : c 1490 - 1550 AD. These where derived from the French proto types issued during the period circa 1461 to 1497 and the design was in use during 1488, as documented in a Paris mint record of that year. During their initial phase of expansion into the West European market for jetons, the Nuremberg jetton - masters devised the Ship penny '(Along with other designs already considered) to felicitate penetration of the French market.

On the right is a stern - castle , with rudder below and flag staff above . on the left of the bow - castle is surmounted by a crossed - staff with pennants.

Reverse description: Four fleurs de lis in a lozenge : with some pelletty ornamentation in the surrounding field .
