A worn copper-alloy half-penny token issued by Robert Hall of Lincoln, mid 17th century (c.AD 1648-1672), simlar to Williamson no.150 (1889, 461).
Description:
Obv.: 'His//Half//Peny' in three lines. Leg.: '+ROBERT.HALL.IN.THE'. Rev.: '.H.//R:A' in two lines. Leg.: '[+BAY]LE . OF . LINCOLNE'.
Measurements: 18.24mm in diameter, 1.23 mm thick and 2.06g in weight.
Discussion: During the mid-17th century (c.1648-1672), due to a shortage of official coins, halfpenny and farthing tokens were issued by private businesses to facilitate small change exchange.
