An incomplete copper-alloy mount of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 1000 - 1100. Only a small portion of the object survives consisting of the openwork plate, displaying five circular perforations and four projecting arms with worn breaks at the ends.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The mount is 34.1mm long, 33mm wide, 4.4mm thick and weighs 9.1g.
A similar object has been recorded on the PAS database as IOW-A556B1 in which it states that Dr Kevin Leahy, National Finds Adviser, comments: This is an interesting and useful find. The hooked tendrils are clearly related to those that we see on Ringerike style metalwork but this thing, with its central stylised knot interlace, is clearly a long way from the Viking original. I don't know of any direct parallels for it but I have seen other openwork mounts in the Urnes style which are likely to be near contemporary.
