A copper alloy trumpet brooch from the Roman period, AD75-175. The brooch has an oval shaped head with a single pieced lug, to which is attached the remains of a spring and axial bar. The trumpet head has a ridge around its perimeter . The head is decorated with scroll work. The bow arches out from the head and tapers towards the foot knob. The button at the mid point of the bow is flat on the back of the bow, but protrudes out at the front. It appears to have traces of moulded decoration. The lower part of the bow is decorated with scroll work that mirrors that on the head. Only part of the catch plate survives, the rest is missing as is the pin. The brooch has a dark-brown, almost black, patina and may have been treated with oil.
