Unique ID: SOM-BA3C3C

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Fragment of a Medieval - Post-Medieval cast copper-alloy single loop buckle frame. The loop of the frame was oval with a straight and slightly offset pin/strap bar. The loop is oval in section with a flattened back and front and swells in width and thickness away form the strap bar. All the way around the front are deeply incised, regular spaced diagonal lines creating a crude ropework. Half of the loop and the bar are missing to old breaks. The fragment is 18.9mm long and 19.9mm wide by 5.3mm thick; it weighs 4.57 grams.

A similar frame is illustrated by Whitehead (2003, 25), no.122 which he dates to c.1450-1550 AD. SOM-DA0F52 and SOM-D32860 on this database are also very similar but more complete.
