Medieval copper alloy sexfoil strap mount. The mount is flat with six petals radiating out from a central circular hole. Each petal is broadly triangular with a concave outer edge. Indents between the petals at the outer edge are emphasised by incised grooves reaching intoward the centre. Each petal is decorated with incised lines following the outline of the petal. Three have rocker arm (wrigglework) filling the central area, alternating with three decorated with an incised outline of a trefoil with pointed leaves. The three with rockerarm have a central circular hole which would have held a seperate rivet for attachment. The back is plain. The mount is 27.6mm by 26.7mm and weighs 3.69g.

This unusully decorative mount is similar to plainer exmaples such as Read (2001:15) no.97 dated c.1270-1350 and Egan and Pritchard (2002:188-9) nos.996 and 1001 of c.1350-1450, which have similar broad form with a good size circular hole in the centre and potentially to examples illustrated on brasses of the mid to late 14th century (Alexander and Binski 1987:293-6). A 14th century date is therefore suggested for this piece. It is possible they were mounted over belt holes (holes for the buckle pin) as some show wear on the central hole.
