A cast lead alloy spindle whorl, probably dating from the late medieval to early post medieval period (c AD 1300-1600). It is bi-conical, with a circular perforation. The perforation has an internal diameter of 8mm. The whorl is sub-hexagonal in section. The object is very worn but appears to have had moulded decoration originally. Traces of a band of rings and dots can been seen on one of the faces. The object is in fair condition and has a greyish/white patina.
The diameter is 25mm, thickness 20mm and the weight 50.12g.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have been found in contexts from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period. However most are typically dated to the Medieval period.
