An early-medieval to post-medieval, cast lead probable pot mend. The object consists of a, flattened, irregular disc with a narrow, integrally-cast neck similar to that normally found in a lead pot mend. However, instead of the normal second cast disc, there are two integrally-moulded flaps projecting from opposing sides of the neck. One is now folded down and one up, but they would originally have served to secure the pot mend on either side of a hole through the vessel. Around the neck of the object are fragments of iron and iron corrosion suggesting that this was used to mend a broken iron vessel rather than the usual ceramic ones. The disc of the object has several lines cut into its upper surface in a distinctive pattern and one edge is scored with deep, diagonal slashes. Other finds from the area suggest a possible date range from early-medieval to post-medieval, AD 800-1500.
