A cast copper alloy fragment - most probably from a steelyard of Roman date (AD 50-350). The fragment is rectangular in plan and profile and triangular in cross section. The upper surface has a series of incised transverse grooves / notches which are evenly spaced suggesting that they are deliberately graded. The surface of the fargment is poorly preserved with a dark green coloured polished patina being present - which has been heavily eroded and the metal has corroded to a mid- purpleish brown colour. The fragment is too small to provided a direct parrallel. It measures 54.5mm length, is 6.5mm wide and 9.7mm thick. It weighs 15.59 grams
