An incomplete copper alloy Colchester or Colchester derivative brooch dating from the early Roman period, that is the 1st or early 2nd century.
Most of the body and the wings survive, but the catchplate, pin and spring/hinged mechanism are missing. We only have one image of the brooch and this image suggests that it had a hinged rather than a sprung mechanism. Both the wings and the bow of the brooch appear undecorated except for (possibly) some mouldings on the wings.
See Hattatt, R. 2007, 297, fig.156, for similar brooches.
