A copper alloy dolphin brooch with a Polden hill claw type pin mechanism (Hattatt 1987, 6) dating AD75-175. The spring is still in place, held by an axial bar. The wings are tubular and circular in cross section. The head of the brooch rises up from the wings and tapers downwards forming the bow of the object. Part of the hook at the back of the head, which would have held the spring in place, survives. The bow is decorated with two parallel groves running vertically down the bow. In each of the grooves is a moulded zig-zag line. This central band of decoration is flanked by a vertical line of rings. The bow is broken and the pin and catchplate are missing. The object has a mid-green patina.
