Medieval strap fitting; incomplete cast copper alloy swivel strap fitting of probable 13th or 14th century date. The fitting is in the form of a D-shaped with a circular domed boss. There are moulded animal heads where the loop joins the boss, which are "biting" the boss. This boss would have contained a fitting which attached to a second loop and which would allow the loop to swivel.
Height 21.75mm; width: 26.19mm; weight: 7.65g
Notes:
The loop appears to have some form of coating or iron staining, possibly as a result of use/wear.
