An incomplete cast early post-Medieval (c.16-17th century) enamelled copper-alloy blunt hooked dress fastening of Blunt Early Post-med Blunt hooked Class A Type 2 (Read 2008, 172).

The clasp is roughly oval in plan, with an attachment loop on either side just after the blunt hook, now folded down over itself although remaining complete, and one at the terminal. Each of the attachment loops has been broken off. The body of the clasp is decorated with 3 pairs of ovoid champlevé enamelled cells (alternating white and blue) running diagonally from a raised segmented central ridge and away from the hook. There is a final crescent cell of blue champlevé enamell abutting the central ridge. The reverse is undecorated but slightly concave, especially in the middle corresponding to the ridge on the front. Where visible the metal of the clasp is mottled dark brown and light green.

The hooked clasp measures 36.99 mm in length, 17.82mm wide and 5.26mm thick. It weighs 5.04g.

Similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database as: CAM-666731, WMID-8BC844 (also has enamel remaining), LVPL-907B06, WILT-DAA923 and WILT-BA0526.
