A small fragment of gold wire which is likely to represent a decorative element from jewellery dating to the Roman period. The wire is rectangular in section and has been bent to form a pelta motif. The wire measures 3mm in length, 4mm in width and weighs 0.11 grams. A pendant found in a grave in Ratiaria, Thrace possesses a series of similar openwork pelta-shaped wires, flanking garnets. It was dated to the first to third century AD (Ruseva-Slokoska 1991, 208, Cat. No. 286 and p. 88 for colour image).
