Obverse bust right: IACOBVS II DEI GRATIA

Reverse double arched crown over crossed sceptre. There is some damage to the left of crown possibly obscuring the original letter 'J. There is an 'R' to right. Date and month illegible, but month possibly September with SEP below crown.

The coin measures 23.8mmin diameter, 2.1mm thick and weighs 4.1 grams.

These were official tokens issued in Ireland when James attempted to recover the English throne and were ultimately intended to be exchanged for silver coins of equivalent value. They were made from old cannon, bells and scrap metal. James failed in his attempt, and the coins were never exchanged.
