A complete copper alloy probable knife hilt guard or quillion of Medieval to Post-Medieval date (AD 1300-1600). The object is bi-convex in section and lentoid in profile. There is an oval aperture through the guard which is set slightly off-centre; there is a slight concretion within however it was not possible to identify the material (i.e. iron). The surface of the guard is pitted and has a light green patina.
The condition of the object makes it look older than it potentially is; there are some similarities between this object and a small number of objects identified as toggles (for example SWYOR-811F53 and LEIC-D74B20).
