Copper alloy buckle fragment. Cast buckle pin with a stepped inner edge which is looped around the strap bar of an otherwise lost frame. A cast and slotted rectangular buckle plate of thickness 1.2mm is folded around the strap bar with a pair of dome headed rivets of head diameter 4.4mm (with another lost) passing through it with their ends bent against the back of the plate. The plate also has straight-sided cut-outs to accommodate the outer edges of the frame. The display face of the plate bears moulded decoration comprising diagonal lines crossing to form rhomboid frames which may have been filled by a further finer cross-hatched texture: the effect is vaguely heraldic. Suggested date: Medieval, 1250-1500.
