A copper alloy Early Medieval strap end dating to the period c. AD 750 - 1100. The strap end can be classed as a Thomas Class A Type 1 and exhibits a split end terminal with two sets of two circular perforations, one copper-alloy rivet survives, the second is missing.

The main body of the strap end is decorated, the deocration is abraded and difficult to discern. There is evidence of inlay, possibly niello.

the strap end erminates in a very stylised zoomorphic head. It includes two eyes which have been incised. The terminal is a bud-shaped moulding acting as the 'snout' of the animal.. The surface is abraided in places. the sides and reverse are without decoration.

the reverse is undecorated.

It measures 42.45mm in length, 6.35mm in width at the top, is 2.65mm thick and weighs 4.85 grams.
