Silver strap end or terminal plate of possible Hiberno-Scandinavian manufacture (James Graham-Campbell pers comm), possibly 10th century (Liz Stewart pers comm). The object is broken and comprises two plates that are trapezoid in shape but roughly broken at the narrow end. The two plates are fixed with two rivets. Both plates have moulded decoration in the form of zig-zag lines and diamonds creating triangular spaces in each of which are 3 pellets (similar to the design motifs on objects in the Silverdale, Huxley and Vale of York hoards). Between the two plates is silver wire "knitting" known as trichinopoly.
