Medieval (late 13th to 14th century) buckle: The copper alloy buckle frame is a double looped oval in plan. The loops and reverse are undecorated with the exception of a notch on each loop. In profile the frame is a wide 'V'. The strap bar is a rounded trapezoid in section. The pin is missing. The buckle frame surface has a light green, well-developed patina. The buckle measures 16.25mm in length, 21.42mm wide and weighs 1.33g.
Egan and Pritchard (2002) date a similar shaped buckle, No. 380, to the late 13th to 14th century. Due to the size of the frame Egan and Pritchard (2002) comment that they were probably produced for a specialised function, but what this function is, is unknown.
