The handle of a copper alloy (latten) Post Medieval spoon dating to the period c.AD 1550-1650. The handle ends in a seal top knop. The knop starts with a flat circular disk which tapers down to two simple balls with a moulded collar beneath. The surface of the disc is worn and has no evidence of pecked initials remaining. The knop is integral with the oval cross sectioned handle. The handle is bent and terminates in a worn break at the point where it would have attached to the bowl, now missing. The knop is quite worn and has a green patina on the surface.
The piece measures 91.72mm in length, 19.05mm in diameter at the seal top and weighs 19.11g.
The handle is similar to ones illustrated by Homer (1975:38) who categorises them as Type B and dates them to c. AD 1550 - 1650.
