A complete cast copper-alloy Iron Age class II potin (Cantian type E) issued by the Cantiaci, dating c. 100-50 BC. Obverse; stylised head of Apollo right, comprised of a single line which merges into a circle with a single pellet at its centre . Reverse; stylised bull facing right, comprised of a series of horizontal and vertical lines with a single central pellet. Part of the casting sprue is stil visible on one side of this example, which is preserved in extremely good condition. Similar examples have been published in numismatic catalogues (see BMC IA / Hobbs 1996, p. 84, no.s 717-723, and ABC p. 74, no. 174) as well as on the PAS database (see record KENT-EEAFB2). The coin appears to fall into David Holman's Subgroup G3 (British Numismatic Journal 86 (2016), p. 55, Subgroup 3).
