An incomplete copper-alloy rowel spur, dating 16th-18th century. The terminal ends of the heel band are broken away and only one terminal survives. The terminal consists of two loops, one of which contains an irob rivet that would have attached to a strap. The spur is D-shaped in section and flares in thickness towards the heel. Traces of the neck are visible projecting from the centre of the heel, but much of it has broken away. The outer surface of the object is decorated with chevrons, crescents and dots that form a feather-like design. There are also traces of a white metal coating, suggesting the entire outer surface would have been silver in colour. The object has a mid-dark green patina with a mid brown colouration in places.
Several similar examples have been recorded on the PAS database, cf. SF-EF1AB3 and are believed to date from the 16th century into the 18th century.
