A worn copper alloy Byzantinian Follis, probably of Tiberius Constantine (AD 578-582) overstruck on a coin of Justin II (AD 565-78), struck at Nicomedia.
The obverse of the coin appears to have the obverse of Justin II depicting the emperor on the left and his consort Sofia on the right, seated facing on a double throne, both nimbate. This has been overstruck by the reverse design of Tiberius Constantine depicting a large M flanked by A/N/N/O to the left and the regnal year to the right.
The reverse depicts a large M flanked by A/N/N/O to the left and the regnal year to the right overstruck by the obverse design for Tiberius Constantine depicting the emperor crowned, draped and cuirassed facing, with the possible inscription (dN Tib?) CON[ ]. The exergue has the mintmark NIKO for Nicomedia.
