Iron knife fragment. Crescentic V-section fragment of a wrought iron knife, comprising an almost straight back and a crescentic cutting edge with irregular losses close to the tip. Knobbled corrosion occurs at the other end, and is unrelated to the underlying form of the object. The tang is lost. The finder credibly suggests a possible Roman date; if this is accepted, and despite the unlovely appearance of the object, it may actually be considered as well-preserved. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410.
