A complete copper-alloy 'caterpillar' stud dating to the Roman period. The stud possesses a sub-rectangular head with rounded terminals and a waisted body. From the underside of the head, there extends a circular-section lug which terminates in a flat circular end plate. The stud measures 10mm in length. The head is 17mm wide and 2mm in thickness. The circular end plate has a diameter of 8mm and is 2mm thick. The lug has a diameter of 4mm.
