A fragment of a lead alloy artefact, probably part of the chamber from a toy pistol of Post-Medieval date, AD 1650 - 1800. It consists of a hollow tube, broken at one end and flaring slightly to a flat base at the other. In the centre of the base is a short iron spike to connect the chamber to the butt. The chamber is decorated with a narrow groove next to the base and three longitudinal panels, two broad and one narrow. The panels carry moulded designs, somewhat worn, but probably floral. On the side opposite the narrow panel is the stub of a protrusion, now broken and abraded at the end. The fragment has a cream coloured patina. It is 24.9mm long and 14.7mm in diameter. It weighs 7.86gm.
More complete examples of this type of toy are recorded on the database: see for example records NLM-A92062, YORYM-CFB105, SWYOR-D32CA6, IOW-8C96AC and SWYOR-4634F5 which is almost complete.
