A complete copper alloy zoomorphic spout of medieval date. The spout is from a vessel, either a ewer or a laver dating to the 15th century. The spout is tubular with a moulded dogs head terminal including integral ovate ears, a raised brow beneath which are incised eyes, and a rounded snout. A series of diagonal mouldings are present running along the top of the dogs head and back of its neck. The mouth is open in the form of a circular aperture. From the reverse of the head a narrowed neck extends and terminates in a worn break.

A similar spout is illustrated in J.M. Lewis "Bronze Aquamaniles and Ewers" (1987), Finds Research Group Datasheet 7, p.5, fig.8a, from Cardiff Castle moat and is dated to the 15th century. Also see YORYM-F6813B on the database.

The spout measures 32.79mm in length, 17.53mm in width, 15.63mm in thickness and weighs 24.69g.
