An incomplete copper alloy dress hook of post-medieval date. The dress hook is of Reads Class E, Type 2 being shield shaped in plan. The main plate is comprised of a moulded relief and openwork design consisting of a transverse cable band surmounted by two fleur-de-lis. Below the band is a swag design from the centre of which the hook would extend. The hook has been lost to an old worn break. A rectangular attachment loop projects from the opposite edge and would have been used to fasten the object to a garment. The reverse of the dress hook is flat and undecorated.
The metal has a dark green patina and is worn. The dress hook is 22mm long, 14.6mm wide, 2mm thick and weighs 1.5g.
A similar example is illustrated in Read, p.89, no.305 and is dated to the early post-medieval period.
