An early-medieval silver dirham of the Umayyads (or a contemporary imitation) dating to the mid-8th century. Paul Cannon has kindly commented 'I am fairly sure that I can see the mint Wasit and date AH 124 ie AD 741-742'
Notes:
Although minted in the mid-8th century it is unlikely the coin was brought to this country before the very late 9th or early 10th centuries from Scandinavia.
