A complete cast copper alloy crotal bell of post medieval date (AD1500-1850). The bell is sub-spherical in shape and consists of two cast halves welded together forming a raised median band. The upper hemisphere has two perforation holes on either side of an intact rectangular suspension loop with uneven surfacing that could be decorative of functional moulding, or the result of damage. There is a drilled perforation hole within this loop. One of the upper perforation holes shows chipping or flaking around the edge and some corrosion. On the lower half there are two circular perforations which are joined by a rectangular perforation There is a thin crack running from one of the lower perforation holes across the median band and into the top half of the bell. This was likely caused by post-depositonal damage such as ploughing. The pea remains within the bell and though it is corroded it is still mobile. The object has a dark brown patina with green in places and is in fairly good condition.
