Four body sherds from Roman Oxfordshire red/brown slippped ware mortaria dating to the period c. AD 240 - 410. The fabric is hard with a fine, slightly laminar texture. It is orange in colour and has abundant fine, sub-angular iron ore inclusions set in a micaceous matrix. The exterior surface retains traces of a red slip which has deteriorated and become abraded. The interior surface of both sherds exhibit pink quartz trituration grits. All four sherds are heavily abraded.
Although the sherds are of the same fabric and vessel type, they do not necessarily derive from the same vessel.
