WEIGHT

Unique ID: SUSS-A729D6

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A small weight made of lead. The weight is roughly spherical in shape, with a hole through the middle. The hole is now filled with soil and lead corrosion product. The weight is undecorated. The weight has been crudely made. The surface of the weight is heavily pitted, with large notches cut into the surface (these do not look recent). The lead has gone a light greyish-white colour. This weight is possibly medieval, but most probably post-medieval in date. Due to that fact that so few lead weights have been found in archaeological contexts, only a very broad date range can be allocated. Weight: 16.05g.
