Fragment of copper alloy early Saxon cruciform brooch probably Martin type 1. The fragment comprises a small part of the bow, the catch-plate and zoomorphic finial. At the base of the bow the rectangular catch-plate web extends perpendicularly, the looped return at the end still retains a section of the iron pin. The end of the bow and beginning of the catch-plate are both decorated with a group of transverse grooves with the remainder of the plate consisting of a central flat segment flanked by downward sloping facets. A centrally grooved collar marks the start of the animal head finial with bulbous eyes long triangular-section head and bulbous oval flared nostrils. Circa 420-475 AD.
