An incomplete Late Bronze Age copper-alloy socketed gouge (c. 1000 BC-c. 800 BC ).

This gouge is circular in cross-section at the top and 'C'-shaped in cross-section at the bottom. It tapers slightly from the top towards the bottom. The top of the socket has a thickened mouth collar. The cutting edge is missing due to a break. Two vertical casting seams are filed and hammered flat.

This gouge is green with patches of a darker green patina. The break at the top is old and the break at the bottom may be more recent.

The gouge possibly belongs to the Ewart Park phase (c. 1000 BC-c. 800 BC).

Length: 64.9mm; diameter at top: 17.3mm; width at bottom: 15.0mm; maximum thickness of mouth: 2.9mm; distance from the top of the mouth to the convavity: 36.9mm; depth of socket from top of mouth: 49.0mm. Weight: 43.17g.
