An incomplete copper-alloy folding clasp fastener of medieval date, c.1350-1450 (Whitehead 1991, 42).
The fastener remains as oval bucklesque frame with narrowed an offset 'strap' bar around which a closure plate remains with the rivet designed to hold the now missing rotating closure bar mount, the attachment plate is missing but the integrall forked spacer remains although the bottom fork is damaged. The fastener is mottled dark grey and light green colour typical of patinated copper, there is some variation between the frame (darker) and the closure plate (lighter), likely due to different composition..
