Fragment of a Medieval copper alloy cauldron, representing one of the supporting feet, AD.1300-1500. The foot is shaped into the form of an armoured lower leg with greave and sabaton depicted. The piece has been broken away from the cauldron at the top. There is a chevron shaped ridge that separates the foot from the shin of the leg. The leg is flat along the inside and outside edges and along the back of the leg. The object has a dark green patina all over. Its design is reminiscent of effigy brasses and sculpture. The find is very similar to No.459 in Egan 1998, that example was retrieved from a 15th century context dated AD.1400-1450, and is thought to be from a tripod ewer.
The leg measures 82.7mm high. The top is 31.8mm long and 21mm wide. The foot is 24.1mm long and 13.6mm wide. The leg weighs 124 grams.
