An incomplete Middle to Late Bronze Age socketed spear dating from 1550 BC - 800 BC. Davis Groups 5-11; 13, 14, or 16, side looped or pegged. Only the circular sectioned mid-rib survives, broken at both ends and with both sides of the blade missing. The metal is pitted, but has a glossy dark patina. From this fragment, it is not possible to narrow down the type of spear head, but the circular sectioned mid-rib suggests a Middle to Late Bronze Age date. The socket tapers from 9mm internal diameter to 5.8mm internal diameter. The breaks are worn and patinated. The fragment is 51.5mm long, 15.7mm wide and 14.9mm thick. 25.95g.
Notes:
This object and SWYOR-E264EA were found in the same field, but in the opinion of Neil Wilkin of the British Museum, there is not enough evidence to suggest that they were ever part of the same deposit, so they have not been declared as Treasure.
