A fragment from a large lead alloy artefact of unknown date or purpose. The artefact is rectangular in plan and profile with a sitinct rectangular projection on the base of the reverse. The front face is decorated with a distinctive cast a pierced lattice work which is neat and well ordered - but achieved by hand. The front surface also has the remains of a black coloured surface. The reverse is plain and undecorated. The body is a mid grey colour with a well defined but abraded surface patina. Due to the fragmentary nature of the artefact the exact date or function is difficult to suggest - it is most likely to have been made after AD 1500

The fragment measures 31.8mm high, is 61.1mm wide and 4.1mm thick. The projecting base is 12.3mm wide and 5.3mm thick. Th artefact weighs 65.31 grams
