Incomplete medieval gold finger ring, AD.1200-1400. The ring has broken with the band becoming separated from the bezel at the join. The bezel is a hexagonal setting for a stone or glass gem that is now missing. The bezel has been slightly crushed distorting the original shape. When complete the ring would have had quite a large internal diameter, perhaps suggesting a glove ring or a large male hand. It is made from gold and the closed nature of the bezel but absence of any evidence for the gem would suggest that this was glass and has broken up and been lost. A ring with a similar bezel set with a Roman intaglio is held by the British Museum as AF.551, though that ring has a latin inscription, it is dated to the 13th century.
