A gold post medieval posey ring dating to the period c. AD 1600 - 1750.

Posey rings are a simple gold band engraved with a brief sentiment or poem inside. They were given by men and women as an expression of love, as a wedding ring or as a means of showing regard and friendship. They were considered magical, having the power when worn to enforce the poesy (poem) engraved on them. They believed that the words touching the vein running directly from the fourth finger to the heart, have a special power.

The finger ring comprises a simple, gold circular band. The exterior is undecorated and plain, with no decoration. The interior is inscribed with the words 'I am thy lot refuse mee not'. The inscription is written in old English and in black writing. The makers mark is not visible on the interior surface.

The ring measures 20.49mm in diameter, with an internal diameter of 11.08mm. The ring weighs 2.32g and has a thickness of 2.68mm.

Notes:

As it was not felt possible to be confident that that ring was more than 300 years old, the finder was advised that it need not be reported as potential Treasure.

Inscription: I am thy lot refuse me not
