An incomplete post medieval copper alloy saddle pommel dating to the period c. AD 1500 - 1700. The pommel consists of two U-shaped pieces soldered together. The halves are convex and semi-circular in cross-section. Each piece is cut off diagonally with attachment wings below, one of which is now missing due to an old break. At the end of the surviving wing are two circular attachment holes. Between the wings is an incomplete tab with a small circular hole. The pommel is decorated with a series of diagonal and vertical grooves that follow the shape of the object. There is no decoration on the inside of the object.

The pommel would have been riveted to a wooden protrusion in the front of the saddle frame and would have been used to secure the reins.

A similar example, also from Devon is illustrated in Read, B, 1988, p. 127, no. 808.
