A cast copper alloy double looped sub-oval buckle of probable later medieval - post medieval date circaAD 1600-1720.

The buckle frame is sub-oval in plan with rounded ends. The upper face of the buckle is slightly convex. The buckle consists of a sub oval frame with trefoil sides with a rounded projection at the end of the strap bar at both sides. The strap bar is narrowed and there is no evidence of a pin rest. The frame of the buckle is decorated with two incised lines on the frame at either end of the strap bar. The reverse of the buckle is flat and undecorated. The buckle has a dark grey patina which may be evidence of a silver wash that once covered the buckle. Similar examples to this buckle can be seen in Whitehead (2003: p.70 ref no.440). Many similar examples have been recorded on the database, including (HESH-6A20E2) discovered in Shropshire.

The buckle measures 39.86mm long, 27.73mm wide, is 2.35mm thick at its widest point on the frame and weighs 5.4 grams.
