A copper alloy mount of probable Post Medieval date, about AD 1550 - 1700. The rectangular mount has cast cells for enamel, of which blue and white is surviving, and the short ends are openwork. Each end is in the form of four moulded seated figures, arranged in pairs, facing each other with their hands raised, palm to palm with their partner. A curl filled with enamel rather than legs may suggest that the figures are mermaids rather than human. The rest of the mount is covered with scrollwork with trefoils and quatrefoils filled with white or blue enamel. The four quaters mirror each other. The metal is gilded.

On the reverse are two integral rivets or attachment spikes, one at each end in the middle. They are circular in section and now bent. They are 5-6mm long. The ungilded metal has a grey green patina. The mount has been slightly bent across the middle. It is 53mm long, 30mm wide and 2.8mm thick without the rivets. 14.21g.

The mount has stylistic similarities with Stuart Enamels which date from the 17th century. Compare SWYOR-030587 which gives references and also SUSS-C2A653 and SWYOR-C0C485.
