Late Early Medieval lead alloy disc brooch of Weetch's type 4.B, 19mm in diameter, 5mm thick and weighing 5.35grams. The brooch has four raised 'petal' like motifs arranged in a quatrefoil. This is surrounded by a solid double raised border filled with rounded pellets. The reverse of the brooch has two semi-circular lugs aligned parallel to each other and joined by two raised bars to each edge, giving the overall effect of a shallow box fitting.
The brooches decoration fits Weetch type 4.B, which are dated to the 11th century and have an eastern distribution, suggesting possible manufacture in Lincoln (Weetch, 2013;Ten Harkel 2010) See BUC-83AD38 for similar decoration, but this example has a pin mechanism which is similar to NLM-879595, showing a possible anthropomorphic image.
