A hammered worn silver post-medieval sixpence of Elizabeth I (r.1558-1603), dated 1567, part of the second issue of coinage (1561-1582), North Type 1997.Mint mark:Coronet.
Obv.: Crowned bust left; rose behind head right. Legend: '+EL[IZABE]TH[:D:G]:AN[G:FR:ET:HI ]REG[INA].Rev.: Long cross fourchee on royal shield surmounted by date '1567'.Legend:'+POSV[I]/DEV.'A[D]/[IVTORE]/M:MEVM'. Both sides of the coin show indications of substantial wear and the coin appears to have been folded and unfolded in antiquity, some indications of limited clipping.
Measurement: 24.25mm in diameter, 0.79mm thick and 2.41g in weight.
