CLOTH SEAL

Unique ID: LEIC-4F59A3

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Post medieval lead alloy cloth seal, 37mm long, 25mm wide and 5mm thick, with a weight of 17.49grams. The object is circular and made up of two (or three) circles folded over and joined by a narrow rectangular strip. One surface has been stamped with a crowned rose motif and there is an inscription around its edge. OVGH can be seen near the crown. It is possible that this could read [L]OVGH[BORO] as BORO may be the next letters? This is the common speling in the 17/18th century, a date range that matches the Tudor? rose motif, for the town of Loughborough in North Leicestershire.
