Distorted front part of a medieval gilt sheet copper alloy D-shaped buckle plate broken at the fold, with frame recesses, a pin slot, three rivet holes and engraved decoration comprising a double contour line enclosing a continuous row of very closely spaced transverse lines and, flanking the pin slot, two triple-line saltires within frames. Most of the gilding has been lost and that which survives is along the engraved lines and around the holes where once protected by the rivets. Estimated length and width c.30 and 36mm. Late 12th - 13th century.
