MOUNT

Unique ID: WAW-BC8FD3

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

Roman (1st to 4th century) mount or unidentified object: The object is sub-circular, with a small portion of the edge missing. The outer face is decorated with three concentric rings, the outer two are shallow, the interior ring is wider and taller forming a central cell. Within the cell there is a moulded design which is unclear but there are traces of dark blue enamel. The reverse is undecorated and has no sign of attachment.

The surface is abraded and has patches of a brown-green patina.

The object measures 36.04mm in length, 30.89mm in width and weighs 8.8g

The style of the decoration and enamelling suggests it dates to the Roman period. As there are no signs of an attachment on the object, it is not certain what it may be; the possibilities are pendant, seal box lid (but is quite large for this), strap fitting or harness fitting.
