A fragment of a copper-alloy, object, possibly a prick spur dating to the fourth century AD. If it is in fact a spur, the fragment comprises a portion of one side, which is arched and lentoidal in section. It extends to a circular-section neck with a conical goad with baluster mouldings. The spur measures 27mm in length and 7mm wide. The goad has a maximum diameter of 4mm. Compare with No. 319, Fig. 11.9, a late fourth or early fifth century spur recovered during the excavations at Piercebridge (Cool 2008, 260). There is some debate as to whether these should be regarded as part of military uniform as examples have been found at sites with and without military connections (Cool 2008, 258).
